The Guardians of New Zealand Superannuation manage the New Zealand Superannuation Fund, the purpose of which is to improve the financial ability of future governments to meet the cost of superannuation.
That makes the work of the Guardians important to all Kiwis, including those not yet born. This is a long-term job, so the Guardians must invest the Fund so that it grows over many decades.
At the end of March 2011 the New Zealand Superannuation Fund has NZ$18 billion in assets, including its stake in Z Energy.
