Z Energy brings convenience back to Linwood

05/08/2011 - By Sheena Thomas | Investor News - Continuous disclosure

Hot on the heels of opening Z Shirley last Friday, Z Energy has now arrived in another hard-hit area of Christchurch, bringing some convenience back to the local community along with a brand new, improved offer.

Local MP Brendon Burns today opened Z’s second flagship site in the South Island at Linwood in Christchurch.

Z Energy is the Kiwi company which owns and operates the Shell branded service station network. Z is the new brand which, along with new customer offers, is being piloted in 10 sites before a commitment is made to a national roll-out.

Z Energy’s Linwood service station was extensively damaged by the February earthquakes and has been closed ever since. We have effectively rebuilt and re-tanked this site, and then had it re-consented by the Christchurch City Council.

Z Energy Chief Executive Mike Bennetts said, after a number of delays, it was pleasing to bring the site back to a community that needed it, and to return it to service as a Z-branded pilot site.

“The rebuild and reopening of this site as a Z-branded service station represents our commitment to our business in Christchurch and to the local community.

“I’d like to thank all of Z’s people in Christchurch, including our contractors, for bringing this project to completion under very difficult circumstances, including snowfall last week.”

“The people of Christchurch, including our own people, have shown a huge amount of good old-fashioned Kiwi attitude over the last nine months.”

“Part of this Kiwi attitude is supporting what matters in our local neighbourhood. We appreciate the great work carried out by charities and community groups in Christchurch, and realise the tough time they are having at the moment from a funding perspective, so as part of the opening, we will be directly investing $5000 in local charities or community groups that matter to the people of Linwood.”

Customers will be able to vote on how this $5,000 will be allocated between four local community organisations; Salvation Army Linwood, Te Whare Roimata, Phillipstown Community Centre Charitable Trust and St Johns Ambulance.
