We will do what matters for people and local neighbourhoods

Z is a New Zealand company for New Zealanders and we’re committed to doing what matters for our local neighbourhoods.

Our customer research has told us that people expect more of us as a local company. They expect us to be transparent and honest; to give back to communities and, when things go wrong, to be straight up and to put things right. Fast.

We’re committed to being a neighbour that people want; by listening to the needs of our staff, our customers and the neighbourhoods we operate in, we will support and invest in things that matter to real people.

We support those most in need of help. So, unsurprisingly, there has been quite a strong focus on Christchurch following the earthquakes of September 2010 and February 2011. The activities we undertook in Christchurch were strongly informed both by urgent need and what our teams on the ground felt mattered most to the seriously affected neighbourhoods. Here are some of the things we did:

  • Set up a School Principal’s Fund and contributed a total of $10,000 to four local schools
  • Donated $10,000 to the Kaiapoi Volunteer Fire Brigade

  • Helped fund a transport provider for children whose schools had been closed to get them to their temporary school locations
  • Provided free fuel to emergency services, emergency generators and earth-moving equipment
  • Donated 100,000 litres of jet fuel to Air New Zealand to enable humanitarian flights in and out of the city
  • Froze the price of fuel for more than three weeks in Christchurch city despite sharply rising oil and fuel prices

Other examples of our neighbourhood activities include:

  • Partnering with Cure Kids to bring back Red Nose Day – an inspiring event funding research into life-threatening diseases affecting New Zealand children
  • 1 cent per litre of all fuel sold in the first month of operation at newly constructed service stations donated to charities and community organisations in the neighbourhood
  • Donations supporting local neighbourhood events such as school fairs
  • Donating 68 refurbished laptops to community organisations, charities and individuals in need in Christchurch.
