We love doing Good in the Hood, but it’s just one of the many ways Z is active in Kiwi communities.
At Z, Community is one of the three things we stand for as a business, along with sustainability and health and safety, where we want to make a difference to the New Zealand of the future.
Below are just a couple of recent highlights of what else we’re getting up to in your hoods.
Compostable coffee cups and collection
We know Kiwis are passionate about maintaining our clean, green and beautiful backyards and country. But a growing mountain of waste is causing problems. If you put the coffee cups we sell each year end to end they’d run from Wellington to Hamilton. We’re taking action to help reduce this waste by rolling out compostable coffee cups at all our sites and collecting them back at 70 stores around the country. That means if every Z coffee drinker gets on board we could divert tens of thousands of cups from local landfills to compost and gardens. Find out more here.
One of our missions in the community stand is to support aspirations and achievement of Kiwis. That’s why we run our Z Scholarship programme, which is in its second year. This month we awarded tertiary study scholarships to seven of our Z site staff (pictured) from as far afield as Timaru, Hawke’s Bay, Canterbury and West Auckland.
The scholarships give funding and wrap around support to our scholars, to help them on the path to achieve their dream of studying and reaching their full potential. For some of them this dream has been many years coming. Just last week we welcomed them to the Z Shed-it was so good to meet all our scholars.
