Z Energy is a sponsor of the NZ Contractors Federation and supports the annual conference, and, more significantly, the Z Energy People awards. We love hearing the great stories relating to the ‘Leader of Tomorrow’ nominations and the ‘Trainee of the Year’ nominees and recognising the people who have achieved outstanding things in leadership and development in contracting throughout New Zealand. It is something close to our heart.
Like most of you, being a company that contributes to New Zealand is really important to us. We want to be known as an extraordinary, world-class Kiwi company and to do that we have some pretty extraordinary people to help us get there.
We want to congratulate all the nominees, especially since the standard of applicants just gets better and better. This year’s winners were three extremely dedicated young members of the civil construction industry; and have been recognised with the following awards:
Drew Griffen from Christchurch and Logan Aves, from Auckland, were joint winners of the Leader of Tomorrow title.
Liam Scarborough from Auckland was named Trainee of the Year.
Canterbury University graduate Logan Aves, 32, works for Downer NZ, heading their Northern Pavement Services team in Auckland – and is very proactive in ensuring excellence of quality in pavements in New Zealand.
Drew Griffen, 26, has a degree in civil engineering and works as a contracts engineer for Connell Contractors in their recently established Christchurch operation.
Liam Scarborough, 19, is a civil sites work trainee with Scarborough Brothers, and successfully combines his studies with a demanding work schedule.
Each of the winners receives a $1,000 prize, a trophy designed by Wellington artist Bruce Winters and time with an industry mentor. Logan and Drew also each win a mystery break to the value of $500.
