22/05/2013 - Z updates
In March this year millions of votes were cast at Z stations throughout New Zealand. Your votes decided how we gave over $1 million to more than 600 groups throughout the country. Now it's time to meet some of them and find out more about the good they’re doing in their hoods. Check out our website to see some of the stories of the groups that have been supported through Good in the Hood 2013.
What’s Good in the Hood?
Good in the Hood is the ultimate in keeping it local. So instead of someone in head office deciding who to support, our people on the ground chose the groups for their service station to support.
Every Z service station in New Zealand supported four neighbourhood groups that had applied to be part of the programme. These groups are now receiving a share of $4000 based on how their Z customers voted.
The groups sharing in Good in the Hood can be viewed on our website.
What else have we been up to in our neighbourhood?
Earlier this year, the Z Commercial Team spent the day volunteering at Te Rito Gardens in Porirua.
Te Rito Gardens (in partnership with Whitireia Community Polytechnic) facilitate a training and work environment in which disadvantaged and at risk young people are given an opportunity to learn the life skills of growing food and acquiring an income in a sustainable way.
Thirteen Z Commercial team members spent the day clearing grass that was taller than a couple of the ladies trying to cut it back, and weeds more stubborn than, well, some of the men trying to dig them out!
The patch we dealt to was about half the size of a rugby field and is now ready for the team at Te Rito to plant out and start teaching their students.
