Help with using Z App

Like anything, we know that at times you might need a bit of help with using Z App.  We've got a few FAQs here to help:

How do I update my version of Z App to get the latest features? 

You can update Z App to the latest version by opening the App Store part of your phone and selecting to Update it. Alternatively, simply select your type of phone version from the links below and you will be able to choose to update it from there.

How do I scan my Fly Buys or Air NZ Airpoints card to get it in to Z App?

You can now save time (and room in your wallet/purse) by adding your Fly Buys card and/or Air NZ Airpoints card in to Z App.

In case you get stuck, here are a couple of tips to help:

    1. Open Z App in a well lit area - if it's a bit dim or gloomy, things generally aren't going to work well!
    2. Hold your card in the same direction as your phone - portrait.  If you hold it landscape, or long ways, it doesn't read the barcode very well.
      So, like this: How to scan
    3. You can add two cards - one Fly Buys card and one Air NZ Airpoints card.
    4. At the moment, you can only add them by scanning the card's barcode but we're looking at options to give you other ways to add them in the future too.

How do I use a Z App promo code?

It's easy to use promo codes in Z App. Simply follow these steps:

    1. Open Z App and select the 'My Z' navigation option (the middle navigation option with a ticket icon)
    2. Then select 'Redeem' next to ‘Vouchers available’
    3. Enter in the promo code and select ‘Submit code’
    4. Alternatively you can also go to to More menu and select 'Enter promo code'
    5. Head to Z and fill up
    6. From the QR code page, select “Redeem” from the “Vouchers Available” section – Now select the voucher you want to use and press “apply voucher”. If you don’t have any available, your list will be empty.
    7. Click redeem now and scan your phone at the point of sale system at the counter
    8. If you change your mind that fine just select the x button next to your voucher and it will be there for next time. Vouchers are now only redeemed once you scan them at the counter.
    9. Enjoy your voucher!

Redeeming Z App vouchers

Our vouchers can be for lots of different things - a Z Espress coffee, a discount off fuel, some Fly Buys points... or even a Good in the Hood token!  Here's how you redeem the vouchers:

  1. Check your Z App is up to date and you’re connected to the internet – Your vouchers will only work with a data connection and the latest version of the Z App.
  2. Open up your Z App – From the tabs at the bottom of your screen, select the page that has a big QR code at the top of the page
  3. From the QR code page, select “Redeem” from the “Vouchers Available” section – Now select the voucher you want to use and press “apply voucher”. If you don’t have any available, your list will be empty.
  4. Full brightness - if your phone is dim, there's a chance the voucher won't scan.  Turn your phone's brightness up to full before you bring up your voucher.
  5. Scan your QR code – Your voucher got added into the QR code. Now when you scan that QR code, not only will you redeem your voucher, it will also automatically apply other benefits that’s you’re eligible. For example, a Pumped fuel discount, Fly Buys points or Airpoints Dollars. It will also automatically apply loyalty stamps to your Z App if you purchase a coffee, LPG or car wash in the same transaction. All with just one scan
  6. Hold your phone close to the scanner - with your voucher on screen, you'll need hold your phone right up to the scanner for it to read. The staff member can help if needed.   
  7. Enjoy - that's it!  You’ve redeemed your voucher using the Z App and potentially got a bunch of other benefits too.

I've had it before - how do I reinstall Z App?

To use Z App vouchers, you need to have it installed on your phone.  If you don't have Z App any longer, not to worry - simply select one of the download links below. Open the app and select the "Already registered?" option on screen. Follow the steps on screen to register again for Z App.

How to enable push notifications to find out about updates & offers.

We use push notifications through Z App to let you know about what's going on a Z - it could be a discount day, a special promotion or even notification about a Z Station closing.

 

For iPhone

To turn on push notifications for iPhone:

  1. On your iPhone, open the Settings app. The icon for this looks like this: iOS SettingsApp
  2. On this main Setting screen, scroll to the very bottom where you'll see "Z App"
  3. Tap the Z App option
  4. Tap the Notifications option
  5. From here, you can choose to turn on Z App push notifications, as well as choose how you want to see them
  6. Sounds, Alerts and Badges can all be turned on or off individually.

To turn off push notifications for iPhone:

  1. Follow the above steps 1-4
  2. From here, you can choose to turn off all Z App push notifications

 

For Android phones

To turn on push notifications for Android: 

  1. On your Android phone, launch the Settings app. The icon for this app varies from phone to phone.
  2. Tap Application manager. On some phones, this might be called Apps.
  3. Scroll through the list of apps and tap Z App 
  4. From here, you should be able to choose to turn on Z App push notifications, as well as choose how you want to see them
  5. Sounds, Alerts and Badges can all be turned on or off individually.

To turn off push notifications on Android:

  1. Follow the above steps 1-4
  2. From here, you can choose to turn off all Z App push notifications

Please note - Android phones are not all the same, and so can all have different names/processes.  As such, the above instructions will not cover all models of Android phone. If you're stuck, perhaps try simply googling 'Turn on push notification' and your phone model.

I don't have an Android or iPhone - can I get Z App? 

Z App is only available on Android or iPhone.  We have looked at other types of device, like Windows phones, but right now we don't have any plans to develop an app for those platforms.  Unfortunately there just isn’t a large enough market share right now, however we’re definitely keeping a close eye on the market share of smartphones in NZ.  If in the future the market share of other operating systems change to a large enough size that we can justify, we will definitely look to extend Z App to other platforms such as Windows Phones.

How can I enter my Fly Buys or Air NZ Airpoints card into Z App without scanning the barcode, eg if I have a digital Fly Buys account?

If for some reason you can’t scan the barcode of your Fly Buys or Air NZ Airpoints card using Z App, then you can still enter it manually.

  • Adding your Fly Buys card manually
    To manually add your Fly Buys card to Z App, select Your loyalty cards from the Z App menu and then select Type in your card number.  Choose Fly Buys and then type in your Fly Buys number. It will start with 6014 and be 16 digits long.

  • Adding your Air NZ Airpoints number manually
    To manually add your Air NZ Airpoints number it's a similar process - select Your loyalty cards from the Z App menu and then select the Type in your card number option. Choose Airpoints and type in your Airpoints number.
