Z Energy (Z) has reached a new milestone in its EV charging rollout, with an EV charger now at one in four Z service stations.

The transport energy company – which currently has 145 charging bays at 48 of its service stations – is continuing to leverage existing Z sites to grow its public charging network in Aotearoa New Zealand, says Z CEO Lindis Jones.

“We are building fast and reliable charging sites at select Z service stations in key areas of the state highway network.

“These well-located sites provide coverage alongside some of Aotearoa New Zealand’s major routes and offer customers on-site amenities and the ability to grab a coffee or bite to eat while they recharge.”

The growing charging network forms part of Z’s broader strategy, which is to support customers with the mobility energy and convenience offering they need as they undertake their energy transitions.

“Z has always been ambitious about the changes we want to make as a modern energy company. While we already play an important role in helping New Zealanders go about their daily lives by meeting their current fuel needs, we also believe we have a valuable role to play as an EV charging provider in the energy transition,” says Lindis.

“While New Zealand needs more EV charging sites to help alleviate range anxiety and support an increase of EVs on the road, we also need to make sure these chargers and the sites are fit-for-purpose. For Z, this means we are strategic when selecting our next EV charging site; we install fast or ultra-fast chargers to help customers charge efficiently; and where there is room to do so, we have multiple charging bays at the selected site to help meet demand and reduce queuing.

“We’re also leveraging our technology to offer a seamless digital experience for EV customers, with access and payment for the chargers enabled via the Z App – the same App they can pre-order a coffee from.

“To have one in four Z sites now offering EV charging is an important milestone for us. And we’re not slowing down yet. Our plan is to have 150 EV charging bays live by the end of this year, in time for the summer road trip season,” says Lindis.
