How do I share fuel?

Once you’ve set up your Sharetank and your fuel is sitting, waiting to be used, you’re ready to invite up to five others to be members of your Sharetank.

Your chosen five can be anywhere in Aotearoa and can use your fuel balance anytime – remember, your litres never expire. Make sure they have the latest version of Z App installed and away you go!

Keep in mind, once someone is a member of your Sharetank, they have access the full balance of litres – choose wisely!

Things to remember:

  • You can have up to five active members at a time
  • There’s a limit of up to eight members over any 12-month period. Note: if a member leaves your Sharetank and you add them again, this counts as two members

If I’m the account owner

Step 1: Invite

To share your tank with others:

  1. Start by opening Z App
  2. Scroll down to tap on your Sharetank
  3. Select '+Add'
  4. Allow the app to access your phone's contacts or alternatively enter the phone number of the person you want to share your tank with and select 'Add' and then select 'Send Invite'
  5. The app will create a text message for you to send
  6. The person you've invited will receive a text message prompting them to download Z App and opt-in to your Sharetank

Step 2: Confirm

Once you've invited someone to your Sharetank and they've accepted the invite in their Z App you'll see a notification confirming this.

To check your Sharetank members in the app:

  1. Open Z App
  2. Tap on your Sharetank
  3. You will see the people you have shared with listed below

Step 3: Remove

As the Sharetank owner, you can manage or remove users anytime in the 'Manage tank' section within Sharetank.

To remove a member:

  1. Open Z App
  2. Tap on your Sharetank.
  3. Select the person's name from the list
  4. Select 'Remove member' and confirm this choice

The member you've removed will get a notification in their app explaining the change and will not be able to access your Sharetank.

If I’m invited

Step 1: Join

I don’t have Z App

  1. Download Z App from the App Store or Google Play
  2. Open Z App
  3. Follow the sign-in prompts
  4. The invite notification will appear, and you can accept the invitation

I already have Z App

  1. Open Z App
  2. You will either see the invite pop up on screen and can accept there or alternatively, you can view your notifications to see the invite and accept

I already have a Sharetank

You can only use one Sharetank at a time, but you are able to scroll between your Sharetanks and others you have been invited to, if you scroll down to the bottom of the home screen. 

  1. Open Z App
  2. You will either see the invite pop up on screen and can accept there or alternatively, you can view your notifications to see the invite and accept
  3. You can now see your Sharetanks and others' too
  4. Tap the Sharetank you wish to use before you redeem your litres

Leave

You can leave someone’s Sharetank anytime. Here’s how:

  1. Open Z App
  2. Tap on their Sharetank
  3. Select the 'Leave tank’ option add confirm when prompted

Note: By leaving someone else’s Sharetank, you’re losing access to their fuel balance. To re-gain access, they will need to invite you again.

Some things to remember being a part of someone else’s Sharetank

  • You will have access to all of the owner’s fuel balance
  • You will not be able to top up
  • The owner can you remove you at any time
  • The owner will be able to see transaction details when you have redeemed Sharetank litres from their balance
  • If you leave the owner’s Sharetank, you will no longer have access to their fuel balance and have to request to join again. Litres are unable to be transferred across different Sharetanks
